Zachary Norton-Martinez, MS, ATC
class of 2016
Director
Zach Norton achieved his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a focus in exercise science from California Polytechnic University, Pomona in June of 2014. Zach Norton graduated two years later in April of 2016 from California Baptist University with a master’s of science degree in Athletic Training, attaining his certification during that same month.
Zach is currently employed through San Bernardino City Unified School District, as the Head Athletic Trainer for Indian Springs High School. This is Zach’s second year as the Athletic Trainer for Indian Springs High School, first as a full-time employee. Zach was also the first ever hire of Certified Athletic Trainer for the San Bernardino City School District. His clinic is also an observation site for current sports medicine high school students, allowing future health care professionals the opportunity to observe what he does in and out of the clinic every day.
Zach was a former board member of California Baptist University’s - Athletic Training Student Organization. In 2015 and 2016 Zach increased student involvement and attendance at California Athletic Training Association Annual Symposium by organizing a bus trip for multiple Athletic Training Programs to Sacramento, CA.
Zach is a huge fan of the world that Netflix and HBO Now has brought into his home and enjoys joining that world when winding down after a long day. He is a fan of playing board games of all types. In his spare time, Zach enjoys training in Jiu Jitsu and is also a fan of the outdoors; He enjoys hikes and when possible going backpacking/camping. Zach also enjoys riding his bicycle as far as his legs will take him, which sometimes falls short of the distance desired. Zach enjoys the profession of being an Athletic Trainer because he is able to impact the lives of individuals under his care, provide new knowledge, and in most cases better someone’s life because of it.

Sarah Beene, MS, ATC

Associate Director
As an undergraduate, Sarah Beene earned her Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology with a minor in Spanish from UC Santa Barbara in June 2011. She was very active in the local community by working with the local YMCA's childcare, aquatics, and sports departments. She also began her athletic training career as an intern with the Gauchos. She then went on to complete her Master of Science in Athletic Training at Cal Baptist University in 2015.
She currently works at the University of Redlands as an Assistant Athletic Trainer while also teaching courses to the university's Physical Education Minors. In addition, she serves as a preceptor to current CBU and Chapman University athletic training students.
Sarah has always been an advocate for attending conferences and creating a network of peers while promoting the profession. Through her tenure as ATSO President for the 2014–2015 school year, she helped organize, fundraise and promote the attendance of CBU students at the 2015 CATA Symposium, Hit the Hill, and FWATA Symposium meetings. With the help of an amazing ATSO Board and unwavering Committee Chairs, ATSO was able to reach their goal of providing FWATA registration compensation for all of their members that year.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys watching Netflix, traveling, going on various adventures with her pitbull-mix, Major, and watching cheesy superhero movies. Sarah enjoys the world of athletic training because it is an ever-changing career that enables her to continuously learn. She enjoys treating injuries and relates them to solving a puzzle that changes day-to-day. One aspect Sarah relishes most about her job are the relationships she forms with her student-athletes and the people that surround her each day.

Chase Paulson, MS, ATC
class of 2011
Liaison
Chase Paulson achieved his Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology from California Baptist University, in 2009. After this, Chase began working on his Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, also at California Baptist University, graduating in 2011 and earning his certification shortly thereafter.
Chase is currently employed at Diamond Bar High School, in Diamond Bar, CA, as the Head Athletic Trainer; and through the East San Gabriel Valley ROP as Diamond Bar’s CTE Instructor for their Health Science Pathway, encompassing 5 courses related to the field of Health and Medicine. Chase is also the Advisor for the Diamond Bar HOSA – Future Health Professional chapter, which he founded in 2013.
He has been an active participant on the CATA Governmental Affairs Committee's Legislative Action Team since 2012, and joined the CATA Secondary Schools Committee in 2015. In 2014 Chase was selected to be a member of the CIF Southern Section Athletic Trainers Advisory Committee, and in 2015 was selected to assume the role of Head State Master Assessor for the CIF’s wrestling weight management program. Chase was selected as the NATA District 8 Chair of the Secondary Schools Committee in June 2016, where he represents all secondary school athletic trainers in California, Hawaii, and Nevada. This past year Chase was selected to be on the Gatorade AT Taskforce for nutrition and hydration.
Chase is CPR/first-aid instructor certified, and holds a certification in Gavilán Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. He is an approved Preceptor for the University of La Verne, Azusa Pacific University, Cal State Fullerton, and Chapman University's Athletic Training Education Programs where he oversees athletic training students.
In his spare time, Chase enjoys spending time with his wife, Sammantha, and his two pugs, Mugsy and Molly. He is an avid Harry Potter fan and loves all things Disney.

Kaytlyn Contreras, MS, ATC
class of 2017
Secretary
Kaytlyn Contreras achieved her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Chapman University, in 2012. Following this, Kaytlyn received her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training at California Baptist University, graduating and becoming certified in 2017. Kaytlyn served as the ATSO Vice President for the 2016-2017 school year and was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student Award for that same year.
Kaytlyn has worked with Varsity Spirit as medical staff for cheer camps and competitions. Kaytlyn is currently employed at Norco College in Norco, CA, as the Head Athletic Trainer working with Men and Women’s Soccer. She enjoys being able to be creative with treatments and interact with athletes in a way that can influence and pour into their passion of athletics. Kaytlyn is also a member of the Athletic Leadership Committee, helping to develop and progress athletics on Norco’s campus.
In her spare time, Kaytlyn enjoys spending time with her fiance, Joseph, and their toy poodle, Smalls (named for the Sandlot). She enjoys hiking and camping with family and being in the mountains as much as possible.
